The Casio TV-880 Is A Great Little TV For Times When You're Stuck "Waiting Around."

Pros Convenient, Excellent Picture, Lightweight.
Cons Sunglare, VHF Channels Difficult To Get Clear Pictures On.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  An excellent hand-held television that you can take anywhere. Would require an anti-glare screen for outdoor use, but has excellent picture quality.
I had to go to the Manufacturer's Page to determine the cost of this television. I have AT&T Cable Television, which gives reward points based on my subscription. This television was offered as one of the gifts I was able to get with my points. It is an excellent program...check into it if it is available in your area! The listed price for this model is $89.00.

When I ordered this television (sight unseen) I was really unsure what to expect. What kind of television would a company give out free as part of a promotional offer? I figured it would have terrible reception, poor quality pictures, and weigh a ton. All my assumptions were wrong.

Weight and Design
The Casio TV-880 is extremely lightweight, and fits easily into a jacket pocket. The unit is somewhat ergonomic, and fits snugly in my hand. There is also a small stand on the back that allows the unit to stand upright. The design features are very simple and utilitarian. They would not win a beauty contest, but are not necessarily unattractive. The antenna folds down beside the body and fits snugly, so it won't snag on your clothing.

Picture Quality
I guess the most important feature of any television is the picture quality. The viewing screen on this model is 2.3 inches, and has a pixel count of 39,600. The picture comes in very clearly when reception is good, and as long as there is no reflected light. I noticed that bright lights (like the sunshine outside) can reflect on the picture making viewing very difficult. The company sells an anti-glare screen for $9.99 which I may invest in, to make this product useful at an outdoor sporting event.

Reception
There are many factors that can affect reception, like the distance between you and the signal tower. If you live in a remote area, reception will be significantly reduced regardless of your technology. The reception on this television is comparable with the reception that I get from my standard televisions. The VHF channels (2 through 13) come in much weaker, and the UHF channels (14 through 69) are very strong. In my area, I am able to get about two VHF channels on this unit, and usually seven UHF channels.

Operation
This unit operates on four AA Batteries, which are placed in the lower portion of the unit (one in front and three in back). The bottom portion of the unit separates for installation. The channels are "surfed" by pressing the two-directional arrow pad on the front of the unit. When the button is pressed a red or green line that indicates the current channel will scroll in the direction that you indicate, until a signal is detected. Once the unit detects a signal (even weak ones) the unit will stop scrolling. There is a numeric chart below the screen that indicates which channel you are on.

Accessories
Aside from the anti-glare screen, Casio also offers an AC output adapter, an earphone jack, audio/video input jack and a carrying case. The unit can also be used with a car adapter jack.

Sound Quality
If not for the picture, this television would be like listening to the radio. The sound signal comes through very strong, and can be adjusted by a small dial on the right side of the unit. The sound does not have a tinny or static effect. I would rate the sound as expected for this type of product.

Durability
This unit is made of lightweight material that would probably be easily broken. The unit feels somewhat solid, but I would not suggest dropping it (nor would I suggest dropping any television). For this type of television, the material is adequate for durability, and with proper care, should last for a few years.

Bottom Line
I like this television. It is a neat product that will be helpful in passing time (like airport layovers, or waiting at the Doctor's Office). The television gets good reception, has an excellent picture quality and is easy to tote around. The accessories available are useful, but not mandatory for regular use. I would highly recommend this product, and feel that it surpasses my expectations.
