Casio's 970/980 is a good little handheld TV

Pros Economical, good picture when reception is also good, just all-around 'neat'.
Cons It's kind of fussy about reception, have to have it just right.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  For the price it is very good. I am very pleased with this purchase. But it's all about the reception.
The Casio 970/980 is not the best television ever. But for the price it's a good bargain.

I live in a metro area and some channels come in very good, while others look terrible. So they definitely could have put a better antenna in this machine. But I hooked up a little converter I bought at Radio Shack and when you watch cable or videotape, the picture is crystal clear. But for the most part people will not be using it to watch DVDs or cable television.

If you do not live near the broadcasting towers I wouldn't expect too great of picture. If you take it for a drive in the country, don't expect to pick up any channels. You might, but it's really an 'in-city' handheld.

UHF comes in terrific. VHF can vary. But for less than 60 dollars, it's a great buy.

Though the audio headset I attached to it sometimes only gets sound in one ear. They're brand new and it's probably a mono/stereo issue. But I don't know for certain. And the TV's speaker is on top, like the other reviewer said. Funny place for it, but it gives me very good sound.

There is another big issue with the headphones and using an adapter. If you have the headphones plugged in all the way, you get a buzz in them. Halfway out, no buzz. I think it's a mono/stereo issue, but you don't get a buzz when you use batteries. So if you have to use headphones, buy some rechargable batteries.

The casing is slippery. I nearly dropped it one night. Some rubber grips wouldn't be bad. Or a clip or strap or something.

So, if you need a handheld and don't want to spend an arm and a leg, the Casio 970/980 is a solid buy. I love mine. Takes awhile to get used to the small screen, but what a bargain I got. I'm very pleased.
