Unreliable unit
Pros
Works well when it works.
Cons
Unreliable, slow to load, stops in mid-song when warm, proprietary headaches.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Don't get sucked in. Avoid proprietary equipment and you will avoid a lot of hassles down the road.
I am on my 2nd 203-G in 16 months. The first quit working while playing a scratched disk and was 1 month beyond warranty (13 months old), so I ordered a second instead of sending in for repairs. The second lasted 3 months when it no longer would turn on. It is currently on its way for service. Both units were slow to load discs with over 1,000 songs. Sometimes they would whirr away for 2-3 minutes and then the tray door would open. I also had the problem of songs stopping in mid-stream for 5-8 seconds and then resuming. Really makes the Kj (me) look like a boof. When they work, they sound great, but the bottom line is if you want to put on a good show, abandon proprietary software and hardware from outfits like CAVS and invest in non-proprietary mp3-G files on your laptop with a good KJ software like Siglos, and you will be worlds happier in the end. SCDG's are not worth all the other hassles, but its how they draw you in to their proprietary world. I will keep a CAVS unit on hand in case someone brings in a CAVS disc that they want to sing from. Otherwise, I don't have the time for cheap hardware and proprietary software hassles.
