My first scope and I am happy

Pros Well made, easy set up
Cons Just not big enough for me
Recommended it? No
The things you can see with a really good scope are amazing. The C150-HD fits this category well, even though there are some problems.

First, the scope is really made well. As with any good telescope if you take care of it it will last you forever. However, this thing seems to do a very nice job of taking care of itself. I have been using mine for 6 months now, and asside from having it collminated, I have done zero work on it - okay, so I added some motors and digital setting circles, but that has been it so far.

I took it to my first star party a few weeks ago. Yes, the guys with the 8" Dob had their stuff up and running in a few minutes, but I had my everything set up within 15. It is really easy to put together/break down in the dark, which surprised me.

Now, for the problems. I don't like straight through finderscopes. I suffer from a case of vertigo and when I try to use the finderscope that comes with it, I feel like I am loosing my balance and that I might fall into the thing. That is not good. So, I replaced the factory finder with a right angle one. Of course, this is just me, so I am not really taking any points off on that account.

The other problem I am having is that images are just not real bright when it comes to deep sky stuff like galaxies and nebulas. I have looked through 8" scopes and galaxies are very bright. In this 6" I can't see them unless I look very very very hard. Granted, there is a world of difference between 8" and 6" in terms of light gathering ability, but it should not be this much.

For planetary work or looking at double stars, well, the thing just can't be beat. Images are very crisp.

All in all, this is a really nice telescope for a beginner. You won't be disappointed in it. Even though I have aperature fever and am trying to decide on my next scope, I will not be getting rid of my C150-HD. I will keep it and I will use it. It's just a really nice piece of equipment.

Oh yeah, and don't buy a scope based on "magnification". That means nothing. Buy based on aperature. Anyone can say "5000x power!" but you are not going to see diddley.

This scope comes with a 20mm eyepiece and an aperature of 150mm (6").
