Quality control issue

The Bottom Line:
Don't buy this model. Buy the 6 or 8 inch version and inspect carefully for defects and missing items.
I got this for portability and thought it was the same quality as the 5i series. Received box and was missing the operating manual, and couple CDs that were supposed to come with it. Scope unable to use out of box because of problem with focusing. Seems like something got bent inside and have to use lots of pressure to move the knob, then it breaks free and easy to turn, then hard to turn again. Will send it back. Will cost $50 to send it back.
Motor, I discovered is much cheaper version than the 5i and I should have spent a little more to get the 6 or 8 inch because it has the CG5 class motor. With the heavier duty motor you can attach heavier scopes to it with dovetail mounting.
All in all construction much poorer and quality poorer than the older 5i. Comes with serial rs232 cable and not usb. I don't know of any laptop that has serial input anymore so don't know what they were thinking. This is a lot of money to spend on this quality scope. It should be in $300 range. I should have got a Meade as I have 2 Meade scopes and both worked right out of the box and never had any trouble since then, even the cheaper reflectors.
