Where is Mars?

Pros Easily assembled and set-up
Cons Can't see Mars as people have described.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Nice little scope for general viewing. Easy to set-up and get going. However not enough scope to view Mars.
I recently purchased this telescope as an entry level unit because after reading a number of reviews, I was lead to believe you could see Mars with some clarity. I read about the ability to see the polar caps, etc. etc.
Well either I have done something completely wrong in the assembly or set-up OR people are touting this unit a little to highly. I believe the latter, after now finding and reading the "GT114 FAQS" sheet on their web site, "why does Mars appear as a small dot?" Answer, because thats all this scope can do.
Why are people reporting that they are enjoying looking at Mars? From where I'am its not much better than just looking up.
This is not to knock the scope, its a nice beginners scope easy to set up and get going, However, if your looking to get a good view of Mars, you need a lot more power than this has. I did quite a bit of research before I purchased this one, apparently not enough, I missed this particular page or I would have spent more and got a larger scope, but was convinced by a number of statements people made that this one could do it.
Bottom line if you want to see Mars, get a bigger one!
