Better with new computer
Pros
Great optics, Newer computer controller works great
Cons
Eyepiece won't clear base to point straight up
Recommended it?
Yes
I bought this scope ( Nextar 8i) in 2003, my first scope and life long dream. My first view of Saturn was and still is a thrill. The optics were great The Go To feature never worked well though, even with the GPS and was a disappointment I would have to hunt back and forth to find objects. Once I found it though it was great ! Then this summer (2007) something died inside and my scope motor and computer wouldn't work.
Celestron repaired the motor board, but also replaced the hand computer controller that comes with the SE model. The new computer Go To feature now works great and is a thrill. If I ask for the Lagoon Nebula I get it
