The Cobra ESD-6500 is a great performer on a budget.
The Cobra ESD-6500 radar detector is a small and fairly inexpensive radar detector with a text display. It detects X, K, super wideband Ka, Laser, and Safety Alert signals.
I owned a Cobra ESD-6500 just before purchasing my current Cobra ESD-9550. I chose the ESD-6500 because of it's text display and inexpensive price. I bought mine new at Best Buy for just over $100. They can be had at EBay now for much less.
This detector was one of the best I've ever owned. It consistently detected X, K, and Ka far enough away for me to be aware before I could see the source in Atlanta traffic.
The only reason I got rid of it was because I wanted the compass feature in the ESD=9550. For a driver on a budget, however, this is an excellent detector.
