WARNING! Cobra Radar Detectors are not Serious Gear

Pros None Noted
Cons Extremely poor performance

The Bottom Line:  Don't take chances with your driving record. Spend the extra bucks and buy a real detector like the Beltronics, Escort or Valentine.
I recently purchased the most expensive Cobra Detector that Best Buy carries. It was $148.00 There was only one Cobra unit that was more expensive. I bought this detector at the last minute because my older Beltronics unit was out-of-order and I was going to take a long road trip.

I placed the Cobra unit exactly where I had positioned my Beltronics unit and I begain my trip. My Beltronics unit would sound the alert nearly a mile in advance of operating police radar. The Cobra unit detected the radar alright -- about 100 yards from the police vehicle. In other words, the Cobra unit was only good for telling me that the police car I was 100 yards from had its radar unit in operation. In no way did this top-of-the-Cobra-line detector alert me to police radar before I was within range of the police radar. In other words, yes, it would go off and alert to radar, but not in time for a driver to slow down and avoid a speeding ticket.

In fact, on two occasions, I saw the police car on the side of the road well before the Cobra detector detected the radar. It was a joke actually. And this was their next to their best detector.

Well, I just returned it to best Buy for a full refund. Since I now have time to wait for shipping, I'm going to buy the very highly rated Beltronics RX65. When just one speeding ticket can cost you hundreds of $$$ in fines, insurance rate increases and lost time (if you want to take it to court), why place your fate in a piece of electronic crapatola like the Cobra. I really can't believe that they would actually sell such a poor performing product in good faith to an unsuspecting consumer.
