Father's Day Gift for the Whole Family

Pros Clarity, good reception, plenty of stations.
Cons None
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I do highly recommend these as a means of effective communication and an excellent safety precaution.
I originally purchased our set of Cobra FRS-110-2Sb radios as a Father's Day gift for my husband more than a year ago. We have since purchased another pair, as the entire family has experienced the benefits of these radios.

We own a 35-foot travel trailer that we keep on a permanent campsite about an hour away from our home. The site is ideal for our large family. It is spacious enough to accommodate our trailer as well as two or three large tents. The only drawback to a site this large is that it's a quarter-mile hike to the lake.

Now a quarter mile certainly isn't anything to complain about, it does become a bit tedious when trying to locate family members. Calling them for dinner, to announce the arrival of a guest, or to tell the kids it's curfew time has become a breeze.

We also feel more secure when our teens hike throughout the campground area if they carry a radio with them. Several times we have alleviated our fears by calling them to make sure everything is okay.

Our campsite is adjacent to a Bible Camp where dozens of kids stay for weeks at a time. Our radios have been helpful to the camp staff when taking a large group on a long hike or canoeing trip. We have loaned them to the staff several times.

In addition to camping, we have brought our radios to Disney World. While there is a bit of confusion in a place this large (also filled with other folks using their own radios) we did find a bit more interference than usual, but did end up making contact with our family members as needed.

We have used these radios when taking a family outing to a new town or city, and splitting up to shop or dine. It has made allowing our teens more freedom on these outings a real pleasure.

We also purchased a set of these radios for my elderly in-laws. With one sleeping on the first floor of the house, and unable to navigate the stairs, and one upstairs with a hearing impairment, it enabled them to communicate simply. It made us feel more secure knowing they could converse with one another and let each other know if they needed help.

Our younger children use the radios as recreational devices. Since they are made of durable plastic we haven't hesitated to let them play with them. They have been the catalyst for some lengthy games of hide and seek in our large back yard.

In mentioning the durability, I must also add that these radios have been dropped several times and have not broken. We find we need to replace the batteries about twice a year.

Check out Cobra when considering a pair of two-way radios. We will soon be purchasing our third set as a gift for my son who camps and boats frequently. In addition to a fun means of communication, we have found them to be wonderfully economical safety devices.
