Don't pay more than $40 for this.

Cons
Needs 6 AA batteries, can't recharge without removing.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Pick them up for $40 with rebates at Office Depot, but if you're looking for a more rugged model, get some Motorola Radius models on the auction sites.
The Cobra PR-1000 UHF /FM radios are nice if you need inter-operability with FRS, but the lack of rechargeable battery support makes them expensive to operate for longer trips or outings, where the radio is on for eight to ten hours a day.
The buttons are also too easy to press, so if you keep them in a jacket pocket, you may accidentally compress them with backpack straps, etc.
I would not recommend these for professional or semi-professional, use, although the price point makes them attractive for family use. Also, UHF is certainly less crowded than the FRS service using FM frequencies.
Questionable reliability and ruggedness compared to "real" 2-way radios such as Motorola Radius.
