The Cobra PR1000 are the best radios I've owned. I recommend them!
Pros
Do not expect to get a 5 mile range as advertised when using high power.
Cons
The speaker has the best sound quality of any FRS/GMRS radio I've owned.

I've owned my PR1000 radios for over 5 years and they are still going strong, and they are still as good as new.
The battery cover is very durable in spite of what a previous reviewer wrote. If anything the battery cover is a bit difficult to remove. My cousin once forgot to turn off the radio for about 8 hours, and the power-saver mode worked very well as the batteries barely drained.
Expect 2 - 2 1/2 mile range in the city, and up to 4 in the country (line of sight).
