Cobra Electronics MicroTalk PR 1000 (15 Channels) Two Way Radio

Very good radio that should provided years of satisfactory service. I bought these units about 18 months ago and have given them light use. Like all others, don't believe the distance claim. Cobra states 5 miles on these, but unless you're on a lake or desert, figure about two miles max. This was fine with me, I only used them while hunting, golfing, or notifying my wife in the other end of the mall it was time to go (she hates that). These radios are a bit larger than most you can buy today, but the larger size allows for a larger and easier to read LCD display, and larger, better speakers. They don't have the cheap tinny sound found in the micro units. I have large hands and find this radio to be very comfortable to hold and operate. The only down sides for me is the fact each unit requires six AA batteries. They last a long time due to the power saver feature, but it's still expensive to replace batteries, even if you use rechargables. Cobra would have done well to include rechargeable batteries and a charger.....however they are available as an option.
Another user said that the battery cover keeps falling off. I don't agree. Perhaps his is defective. The covers on the two I have are very secure.
