Better than expected

Pros Big screen, easy to use, nice voice.
Cons Would enjoy 3D if it had it.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I think this is a great value. It is easy to use, easy to understand and the maps are accurate- even in small towns and country roads.
I spent a lot of time investigating possible G P S systems. I don't care for the ones with tiny screens and complicated systems to input the maps.

I was concerned about this one not having 3D and not being touch screen.

Well, I got it and it is a much better choice than I expected. The screen looks better than it does on the photos. it has the street names.

The input device is intuitive and easy to use. it lets you spell it out with an easy to use input (put in zip first, then just have to do the street address. ) and it also has a click down selector. so as you get close to a name, you can just click on it.

I tested it driving around and I like the voice and the mode of giving advance notice. I will come back later and talk about whether or not the maps are accurate.

It was easy to install.

The G P S locked in virtually immediately- I was expecting to have to wait for a while.
Got a good price from the epinions/shopping.com selector plus a deal for using it. so net price was $535 or so. Also got the accessories from cobra.com (AC adapter and case) Everything arrived fast and well packaged.

Cobra took the time to write out detailed instructions- their book is very helpful.
But frankly...the system is designed very intuitively and defaults set probably will work for most people.

It does have some interesting preference change capabilities...multi language, loudness, brightness, auto reroute, detours, etc.

It is very easy to use and I am using the French language section to practice listening and learning French when I know the route. :-)

It works on cloudy days (a concern of mine before I got it).

All my friends are wow'ed by this system- it really goes beyond expectations. It handles detours well, (does not simply say U TURN, U TURN all the time- it reroutes immediately).

The two chimes when you hit the actual turn time is great.
The maps are accurate. And it does not simply book you onto major roads, it does some shortcuts :-)

The voice is pleasant and not annoying to listen to. (doesn't talk too much- if you are on a road for a while it says, continue for 12 miles kind of comments and does not talk again until it is appropriate.

This machine is amazing. Now I can actually enjoy viewing the countryside instead of worrying and trying to read obscure hidden street signs. It has yet to fail me, getting me to really out of the way locations.

As a JP I drive all over the state and it works great.
I am wondering now..why cars are not required to have these systems. It has to save on gas for anyone who drives to new places all the time.
