Works like a radar detector

Pros Price, easy to change settings, compass, nice display/ display color, sleek design.
Cons Will update if any problems.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Built well, looks nice, and I'm sure will pay for itself in time. Nice investment for $100.
Price - $99.99 from Amazon - free shipping

In the box - detector, instructions, windshield mount, dash mount, coiled power cord (estimate 4-6 ft)

I received this radar detector in the mail today and though it's not truly been "road tested" for any length of time, I feel I can still provide an adequate review.

You can find the detailed specifics on all of the features for this product on epinions and many other sites so I am not going to waste space by listing them all.

I was very impressed to find a radar detector featuring "POP" radar for under $100. It obviously comes with the standard X, K, and Ka band detections, along with VG2 and Spectre.

I've read many reviews of, all sorts and brands, on radar detectors from $50 - over $200. Many give a poor review stating that "the detector gives too many false alarms" or "it never goes off when there is really a cop around." Detectors have different settings to allow for customizing and also to give a more "true" alarm. The detector, regardless of money spent, is not perfect. When you start changing modes and features to prevent false alarms you are running the immediate risk of the detector missing a true police radar. I leave mine on highway all the time and just deal with the false alarms, however I don't live in a densely populated city and do lots of interstate driving.

On to the positives on this model - I first had purchased a Whistler model very comparable to the price and features of this Cobra unit but I never made it out of the mall before breaking it. I stopped to open the package to look at it and when I put the suction cup mounting piece into the detector, it broke inside. This Cobra model features the same idea for mounting, but you can tell it's made much stronger. When you slip the little metal piece inside the detector, you can actually here a "click" and not the "snap" of something breaking inside. The Whistler didn't make it 24 hours before being returned. This Cobra model also came with a little two sided, adhesive coated, rubber piece to mount directly to the dash if you would like.

The instruction book with this model is very detailed and well illustrated. There are several pictures showing what buttons you will need to push and when. The book is easy to understand and is in a nice size printing. It is actually a "book" and not just a huge piece of paper folded a hundred times like a map. It's small enough to fit in my glove box.

The compass is a nice feature, easy to set, and much appreciated since my car didn't come with one.

The color and display is very pleasing, as well. The "bright" is not too bright at all but it also offers a "dim" setting.

The volume is also plenty sufficient. I listen to music fairly loud and believe this would provide enough volume to get my attention. It also has a headphone jack (output jack) so you can hook it up to a small speaker if you would like. The Whistler I had purchased wasn't even close in regards to volume and didn't offer the output jack.

The performance will continue to be monitored but I will update if any problems. So far so good - I guess you never really know a radar detector didn't work until you get a ticket right? Well I am sure this will save me from at least one of those and that alone pays for the detector.

One suggestion - I wish a straight power cord came with the detector because those are much easier to conceal into the cracks of the dash. I needed to buy two from Cobra's website so I can cut and join them together for a super long cord that will be totally hidden when run under my dash and will come out next to my seat to plug in.

Remember - a radar detector (even the $300+ Valentine) isn't a free pass to drive like an idiot. Nothing is going to save you when you are going 100+ mph and a police officer puts his radar on.
