Yes
The Bottom Line:
Definately a great buy! Best bang for your buck! If you want to spend 300-400 on a Valentine be my guest but this radar is all you will ever need!
I had owned my XRS 9700 for about seven months. During those seven months I had received only one ticket! I'll let you know how that happened later!
The XRS 9700 has many features. Many of which are difficult or in some cases wierd to activate. A few of my favorite features are:
Intellimute - Setting this feature is rather tedious. Although time consuming it is my favorite of all the features. After activating Intellimute the XRS 9700 will read the engine RPMs. If your RPMs are low or idle then the XRS will automatically mute or activate "ATT" depending on whether or not you're receiving a signal.
So, basically if you're sitting at a stop light and you're receiving a signal it will automatically turn down the volume. In the case of no signal being acquired it will automatically mute.
Audio Jack - I utilized this feature to the max! Most people would either not use it or plug in some headphones. Nope! I had fiberglassed the radar into the clock pod on top of my dash. Seeing as it was almost completely encased in fiberglass common sense would tell you "HEY! YOU'RE NOT GOING TO HEAR THIS!" I took a headset for a cell phone, cut off the microphone and other useless items attached, and wired the XRS to an external speaker!
The internal speaker for the XRS is extremely loud at volume level 10, but when I hooked up the 3" speaker and cranked up the volume I didn't have to worry about my music being too loud.
The only other feature that I had "fun" activating was the 8-Point Digital Compass which intaled driving in a circle twice and doing it again in the opposite direction or something of the sorts.
As far as the XRS acquiring signals I had no problems. There were a few occasions when coming up a hill that I hadn't received an initial KA signal but instead a "bar 2" strength signal instead. This still allowed me PLENTY of time to reduce rate of speed.
Here in Michigan the police officers DO NOT bust you in town unless there is a local event. They mainly sit on the highways. Which means that I was almost always travelling in excess of 85 MPH (speed limit is 70). Even at that rate of speed it was fairly easy to reduce my speed before getting busted.
Spectre alert was one of the only things that got on my nerves. I mainly recieved the Spectre alert when passing or riding along side of my friend Chris who has a radar jammer installed. That, I suppose, would not be a problem in your case.
Laser detection is extremely accurate but you REALLY have to be responsive! I managed to bypass 4 officers outside of their cars toting Lasers and pointing them directly at my shiny red Eclipse!
I plan on purchasing a new XRS 9700 here soon. The only reason I don't have the first one anymore is because of a wiring mix up (i had it hard-wired). It was wired to the fuse box (wiring kit was purchased at Best Buy FYI) to a 10 amp fuse. That was my mistake. Low voltage = FAILURE! It went up in smoke! :(
The only time I did recieve a ticket with the XRS 9700 was on a roadtrip. I was leaving Michigan to head to St. Louis. I hadn't even left the state when I was pulled over along with another person driving behind me. The ticket read... 88 MPH "+ - 3 MPH" "Detection Device = PACE"
He paced me! Meaning that the radar had no fault! :)
Hope this helped!
Thanks,
Mike
