These little Cobra "walkie-talkies" were given to my two middle boys, aged 8 and 9, for Christmas by their aunt. I thought it was a bit too much to pay $70.00 for "walkie-talkies" until we started to find all sorts of great ways to use them.
When coming home in two different cars it came in handy as we drivers (yes, mom and dad had temporarily absconded the little things) were able to talk to each other as we spotted things on the way, needed potty breaks, or had a craving for something to eat. One time we were over a mile away from each other and we could still hear loud and clear. Much better than some other walkie-talkies that we had used for our trip from Arizona to Alabama. We had to be right next to each other in order to hear with those.
I also found that I could give one to my children and keep the other one while they went outside. If I needed them or they needed me it was very easy to stay in contact with each other.
Another feature I like is that it gives you a "bleep" when the other person quits speaking and lifts up on the talk button. This way you know you can talk and they can hear you. With other walkie-talkies you sort of get little squelch noise, but it's not something that you can depend on and you can waste your time telling the other person to please repeat their last transmission.
I also like the antennae. It is a flip up piece that can't get broken and bent easily.
So, if you feel like shelling out about $70.00 you won't feel like you wasted your money on these.
