The Cobra microTALK1 is like a dream come true. For years I have bought walkie talkies that disappointed me.
I bought my pair from circuit city 6 months ago for $70, (they are now a steal for $50 a pair, don't pay a penny more) and they have been put to intensive use.
My girlfriend and I use it most when we go shopping, which happens almost every weekend. We both have very different interests so these radios allow us to stay in touch while we do our own thing. In a bigger mall or factory outlet there may be times when the radios are out of range because of the many walls but it's just a matter of walking around and pressing the Call button until the other person responds. We carry it everywhere we go because we never know when we'll need them.
I have also taken my radios to Singapore and Laos where I spent Xmas and the new year. They worked perfectly and I didn't get any interference from any wireless communications devices there. There's too much to tell and I don't want to make this too long. All I will say is that without the radios, my family would have spent many hours searching for each other in the HUGE open flea markets they have in Laos.
I have tested the range from my apartment to my car at over 2 miles away.
Pros:
1)For this price ($50/pair), you will not find anything else with such a combination of features.
2)Extremely compact size because of the foldable antenna (very important if you want your girlfriend or wife to even consider using one).
3)Call button that sends a ringing tone to alert the other person
4)Crystal clear voice transmission and loud volume if you need it.
5)Very good battery life. During my whole trip to Singapore and Laos, I only changed the batteries once and they were left on for at least 3 hrs a day for the 10 day trip. (Uses 4 AAA batteries per radio)
6)A nice musical tone that lets you know the other person has stopped transmitting.
Cons:
1)Only 2 channels. If there are other people around with FRS radios, you might receive a lot of transmissions... I haven't had a problem, even at an amusement park.
Hope this helped you in your decision making. Please rate this review to let me know. Thanks!
