Pros Cheap with tons of options, plays just about anything. (vcd, mp3, photo cd etc.)
Cons Software is buggy and needs some tuning. Prone to easily overheating (I guess).
Recommended it? No

I really was happy to get this DVD player.. it has soo many options without the hefty price. It plays virtually any vcd, cd of burned mp3's and even photo cd's. It has quite a few options on the remote itself. You can set the dvd to do an endless loop on any section of the dvd you like. This is... Read full review »

Pros price, 110V-220V compatible, PAL-NTSC compatible, 5:1 compatible, MP3
Cons no display, loud mechanism, "folder" but no "disc" random play option...

I was amazed to find a $50 DVD player (special at fry's) packed with so many features.
First, the multi-voltage (110-220V) and multi format (PAL-NTSC) allows to use this player worldwide. (not to mention the region-free code I found on the web to play DVDs from any country).

However,... Read full review »

Pros Affordable, small, Great features, upgradeable, 5.1 Built in Decoder
Cons No LED display, No Audio In input, remote could have been better organized
Recommended it? Yes

Being a huge advocate of the principle of paying more for a brand name, I was hesitant to pick this one up. However, yesterday I found a deal on it which comes out to be $50 totally, so I figured I will give it a try. I have read good reviews about it before but still was hesitant.

Ok the... Read full review »

Pros - can play multi-regions - supports PAL/NTSC - very affordable and solid dvd player
Cons - wish it came in black. - no progressive scan
Recommended it? Yes

I was able to pick up this gem at Fry's Electronics for only $39.99. It was originally $79.99 but Fry's frequently has this on sale, so wait for it.

I have never heard of Yamakawa before, until my brother showed me the 218s model at his house. It has features that you would normally find... Read full review »

I bought this DVD player for $49.95 in Fry's for a family friend who lives in India due to this players ability to plug into any power socket (110 to 240 V A/C) in the world. I am really glad that I did!!! It has 5.1 decoding, excellent picture and sound!!!

ZOOM to 1/2 or 1/4 of the... Read full review »

Pros Cheap. I bought my two off of ecost.com for about $30 each.
Cons There is this very bright blue light which the remote will not turn off.

I have owned 4 or 5 different dvd players in the past several years and have taken back two of them to circuit city (where I will never shop for a dvd player again).

Whereas, I have owned 2 dvd players which sometimes stopped playing a dvd disc at the final 15 minutes of the disc, I have... Read full review »

Pros Cheap - Sometimes you DO get what you pay for
Cons Cheap product and design is not well thought out and has a flaw in operation.
Recommended it? No

After playing about 10 full length movies the DVD player started scratching CD's. Opened up the casing and found that the ribbon wire connecting the laser is bending and entering the area where the CD is spinning. Contact with the CD is leaving scratches on CD. Read full review »

Pros Worked well until it didn't.
Cons Destroys DVD's
Recommended it? No

I bought this DVD player a little over a year ago on a friend's recommendation that it was inexpensive, reliable, and versatile. It was fine until the last month or so, when it started destroying my DVD's. It somehow carves a ring into the playing side of the disc while it plays, about 1/4 inch... Read full review »
