WORST DISCMAN EVER

when working it would occupy my son for a few minutes.

The Bottom Line:
Do not buy!! waste of money, time to get it working and annoys with its whining noises.
My son received this discman as a gift for his 8th birthday. He was thrilled, it was his first discman. It seemed more kid friendly, it was pretty simple to use, and right on the package it talked about being built tough for kids.
The second he put in a cd to listen to it though, we had a different opinion. He put in a brand new cd to listen to, and it would skip badly. We knew it couldn't be the cd being brand new, but we didn't want to think it could be a brand new discman too. We took out the cd and put it in a different cd player and it worked just fine. The more we fiddled with it we found that if it is lying on a flat surface, like a table, it wouldn't skip. It would work, but it was pretty limited to where you could use it. When it would work the batteries would run out fast. It would only hold a short while. I was buying new 'AA' batteries every couple days.
The worst complaint we had was that when the discman is running there is this constant high pitched (but low in volume) whining noise. You can't hear it a lot with headphones on, it isn't in the songs it is the machine making the noise. It got to be so annoying to whoever else is in the room that my son had to use the discman isolated from everyone else.
I hate to say it, but it broke completely about a month after receiving it, but my husband and I were glad. Discman's are meant for convenience but when it needs to sit on a flat surface away from everyone it isn't that convenient.
PROS: When it was working, it would occupy my son for about 10-15 minutes.
I was told it was bought at wal-mart for about $15.00.
