Coby DVD-925 Theater System

I received this item as a gift from a senior citizen & when we went to install it, it would not work. I contacted Coby & was told that I would have to pay $31 to have the DVD player looked at since I had no receipt, you can buy a new DVD player for less than $31. Hello, you get a gift, you don't have a receipt all the time. I have all the packaging & complete box but still they would not help me. I will never buy another one of their products since they just want the money, but don't want to back up items that do not work when you get them. The lady in customer service said it was a defective unit since it would do nothing but turn on, would not open/close so it can't be used.
