FS7600 -- Does the FS stand for Flickering Screen?
Pros
Price. Good while it lasted.
Cons
Flickering screen. Dust.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
If you get it free with the computer, use it while it lasts. Otherwise, do not purchase it.
This monitor came with the computer I purchased at Circuit City about 18 months ago. It was a great deal with a great rebate.
Unfortunately, this monitor got a weird flicker a few months ago no matter what the refresh rate or resolution. At first, I thought it might just go away, but it continued to get worse. It is the type of problem where I would expect the monitor to go at any moment but it just keeps working and flickering. Moreover, it is a bit distracting when working on academic papers.
As far as looks go, it is bulky (as to be expected with a CRT monitor). The front is a nice shade of silver, but the rest of it is black which really, really shows the amount of dust it collects.
So, I changed the monitor back to my old Compaq FS740 (which I bought separately after another monitor literally died) to see if perhaps the video card was going, and the flicker is gone. So, I am presuming the monitor was the issue. Therefore, I cannot recommend it.
This is the second computer I have purchased pre-built in a package where the monitor did not last very long. We do use the monitor almost without ceasing. However, I have others last much longer. Next time, I will try an LCD instead.
