Not so good
Pros
17", bright
Cons
Annoying NOISE with contrasting backgrounds, insufficient image control
Recommended it?
No
This monitor is just "good enough", but it suffers from a few problems:
- the OSD controls are quite primitive
- you can't finely tune the image to NOT have its middle third up by 1.5 millimeters from the bottom of the screen (this means all horizontal lines or bars, such as title bars, are a little curved)
- the monitor sometimes SQUEAKS (emits an annoying high-pitched sound) after you switch from a white background to a dark one, at 85Hz. This even happened wen starting a standard "cmd" window, which at 1024x768 only covered about 1/4 of the screen's surface. I haven't noticed the problem yet at 75Hz, but I've only switched to this refresh rate one hour ago.
The "screen regulation", which means the distance the edges move when the screen switches from full black to full white, is close to the acceptable limit (as defined by the Nokia Monitor Test - NTEST, 2 millimeters). This leads to the screen "waving" when you move a dark window over a bright background. This "pulsating" effect is more obvious when you simply switch from a black-background window (e.g. a terminal screen) to a white one (e.g. Word document).
