Good product but get a newer model

Pros Bright, clear display; easy to use and much better than Palm
Cons no CF slot built in, freezes constantly, no real use for a college student
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Great product, but geared for the business professional, not the college slacker
I got the IPAQ 3630 as a present from my roomate for Hanukah. My first thought was what a sweet little thing this was! It was sleek looking, the color screen was great and it is very easy to use if you are used to Windows. Although I find the writing program annoying and useless, it is far better than Palm's Graffiti. Also, the programs available for Pocket PCs are really something. I can play Doom, I even found a Super Nintendo Emulator, and a program that allows you to use your IPAQ as a universal remote. Unfortunately, thats where my fun with the IPAQ stops. Its nothing more than an expensive Game Boy to me! As a college student, I dont need to keep track of hundrends of contacts, and all the phone numbers I need, I have in my cell phone all ready to be dialed. I don't really need a computerized calender and to-do list because I already have a academic planner that I bought for $0.99 at my local bookstore at the beginning of the year. The only thing I really use my IPAQ for is as a universal remote and to read offline webpages through AvantGo which is a free service for any PDA, even the far cheaper $100 Palm Pilots.
The IPAQ surely isn't for everyone. Personally, I don't need a voice recorder, or 32Mb of memory. I don't need a color screen, no matter how great looking it is, nor do I need Pocket Word or Excel. As a college student, I only need a planner, and some games. As it stands, the IPAQ is designed for business people who have hundreds of email addresses and phone numbers to keep on hand, and need a pocket computer to write memos and short emaails and such. I don't need that. If Compaq wanted to sell me an IPAQ, make it wirelessly connect to the Internet or Intranet, put in a keyboard so I can chat with friends during a boring lecture through AOL Instant Messenger, or have it play movies or minidiscs or MP3's.. in other words, make it useful for me!
