My first surround speakers
Pros
good quality sound, volume control, color coded plugs, tripods for rear speakers
Cons
bass not quite strong
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Great surround speakers for an affordable price.
I was looking for a good quality surround speakers but budget was tight. So this left me 2 choices: Altec Lansing ACS54 and Cambridge PC Works FPS1000. When I look more closely on the details of both package, I tend to pick FPS1000 because it includes stands for rear speakers and it is cheaper.
This is my first surround speakers. I bought the black model. For me, black computer peripherals are cool.
Sound quality is good. The surround sound is courtesy of my Sound Blaster Live sound card. I've tested the FPS1000 performance on games and DVD movies. Conclusion, I'm quite happy with it. The only thing that will make me replace it is a 5.1 setup.
Setting it up is quite easy. Cables from sound card to the speakers have color coded plugs. Because the satellites are the same, Creative included stickers to identify each speakers and its plug. Also included is a pair of tripods for rear speakers.
Most speakers have the volume control on one of the satellites or on the subwoofer. With the FPS1000, the volume control is on a separate module. This is good when you are watching movies on your PC and don't want to go near the speakers to adjust the volume.
The only limitation I experience with it is not quite strong bass.
