The Bottom Line:
If you're serious about entertainment for your computer and beyond, the Inspire 5700 Digital is your speaker system for those audiophiles and more.
When I was asked to build a completely new computer for my friend, since he's really into entertainment for his new computer; MP3s, DVDs, mind blowing games and even some video creation; he needed a speaker system that could really live up to his expectations and, he wanted very high quality digital audio speakers as well. Plus, he didn't really want to order a Klipsch system, because those cost far more than what he can really afford. So, I tried looking for the speaker system that offers the same quality as those more costly Klipsch systems, yet try to keep the costs to a minimum. With the Creative Inspire 5.1 5700 Digital, I have no difficult time to really recommend those speakers to him and to anyone that is really looking for the ultimate entertainment speakers without really paying for premium speaker prices that you'd expect from Klipsch.
Contents
The contents in the package of the Inspire 5700 Digital, includes a decoder, AC adapter, 4 standard sized satellites, 1 extra large center satellite, a subwoofer, the necessary cables, the manuals, remote control and a digital decoder. The speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent damage, distortion or discoloration of your monitor, when your speakers are placed close to the monitor, especially for the center satellite. Plus, for starters, this speaker system is very easy to install too. It has a very descriptive manual that walks you through the installation process. Although the set up will take a little more time that the speaker systems that have no decoder, but it?s as easy to set up as the ones that don't have a decoder, including the Inspire 5300.
Experience
Installing the speaker system is also very easy, even the boomers can do this with almost no difficulty, especially my friend's dad. Practically everything plugs into the back of the decoder and nothing more in general. All the satellites plug into the decoder as well as the audio input from your sound card plugs into the decoder instead of the subwoofer, for easier access, rather than getting down on the floor with the subwoofer, in many speaker systems.
Once the system is properly hooked up, the speakers were tested through hours of MP3 audio, a couple of DVD movies and one 3D Intergalactic game. All of which showed equally impressive results, from just the audio output alone.
The bass emitted out of the speakers and the subwoofer, are very rocky and powerful. Enough to really blow anyone's mind off, after the speaker system is fired up. In all the tests that the speakers went under, they all offer the same reaction and results as I've expected for the money. With the EAX built into the hardware, it allows the speakers to offer an enhanced bass production, so you can further enhance your experiences and senses to much higher quality games and many more.
As for the trebles, they aren?t muddy at all, as a result of the high quality design of the satellites and the subwoofer. They all are properly sealed to give you clear trebles, even in high volume settings. They're so clear, that I can't notice anything that is bad on the speaker system. Thank the Dolby Digital Surround Sound, you can even further reduce the unwanted noise from the speaker system, so you can comfortably view your DVD movies and listen to your favorite tunes, for your online radio station and MP3 collection.
But for the highest quality audio, I would recommend the Sound Blaster Audigy sound card for these speakers.
With 7 watts (RMS) of power for each standard sized satellites, 21 watts (RMS) of power for the center satellite and 30 watts (RMS) for the subwoofer, the Inspire 5700 Digital delivers a total of 79 watts (RMS), but it could stand for a higher rating for the money though. But regardless of the rating, the speaker system does an excellent job for providing great audio for your computer.
With the decoder provided in the bundle, you can control the volume, inputs and effects independently. The Master volume controls the front speakers, center control will control the center satellite, surround can even control the surround satellites, plus; it even has an independent subwoofer controller, for ideal balance of what you would like to hear within your atmosphere. It's very useful for those that have the surround satellites far from the main and center satellites. Plus, you can change the effect of the speakers right from the decoder, just like your amplifier for the right kind of audio effects for the application. Plus, the decoder can even accept audio sources from audio players too, with the extra outputs that are present in the decoder itself. Just follow the manual exactly for the appliance that you would like to hook up into your Inspire 5700 Digital and you're ready to really make the most out of this speaker system, other than using it for the computer.
With the remote control, anyone can easily change the volume, effects and away from the decoder, this is a great convenience if you don't really like to be too close to the computer or you would just like to relax on the couch, while you're listening to your favorite tunes here.
With the user interchangeable grill plates, users can customize their Inspire 5700 Digital depending on their tastes, if they don't really prefer the bundled black grill plates. But users may wish for a dedicated faceplate for the decoder, as the decoder faceplate?s writings can be very hard to read, for those that have visual problems.
The satellites themselves don't really take that much space on your desk at all. Plus, if you really want to have the experience of full surround sound, you can either hang the surround satellites on a wall or with the optional floor stands. With the optional decoder vertical stand, you can easily save even more space on your desk. But many will do fine without the decoder stand, as long as you have a stable base on your desk.
Recommendation
For about $260 at a local computer hardware store, the speaker system is a great deal; considering what Creative has managed to offer. At such price, it maybe too expensive for the average Joes in computer speakers, besides that; the speakers were more intended for those that are really serious about audio and entertainment for their computer and many more. With such high quality, you can really pass it down from your current computer to the next, without hardly any breakdowns at all.
