I got notice of this during the pre-Christmas 5-hour sales that Circuit City was running. Although I wasn't planning to get anything like this, I had to snag one for my 13-year-old son. It was $30 off the normal price, which brought it to $70.
It delivers everything it promises and is incredibly easy to use. I got seven albums loaded on it in minutes, since I already had them in MP3 form - it was a simple matter of a disk-to-disk copy. The included software made it easy to rip a new CD my son got for Christmas and dump it on. Still plenty of room for more music.
I've seen my son go through two or three pairs of AA batteries in a weekend with his CD player. The Nano promises 18 hours on a single AAA. We haven't actually checked the life of it, but it's more than a week since Christmas and he's still on his first battery!
The sound quality isn't perfect, but it's as good as you could expect for something in this price range. I played it through my Sennheiser noise-cancelling headphones, and it sounded pretty good, although the included phones weren't the worst I've ever heard. I hooked it to my computer speakers and it delivered decent sound, but it didn't have much gusto. Then again, for something smaller than a pack of tic-tacs, it was pretty impressive.
I may have to get one of these for myself. If only my mini-disk player would break so I'd have an excuse...
