The Bottom Line:
A buy if you can find them on discount
I was looking to replace my busted Altec Lansing Notebook XT1 speakers with a 2.1 system. I narrowed it down to the Creative i-trigue 3000, JBL Spyro, JBL Harman Kardon Soundsticks II, and the Logitech Z-2300. The JBLs were more expensive and supposedly had better sound than the i-trigue 3000 and the Z-2300 according to a majority of reviews. However, at their price points none of them can be considered audiophile quality.
I eventually settled on the i-trigue 3000 because of its lower price (a rebate at that time) and thought that the huge wattage offered by the Z-2300 was unnecessary for me. In addition, considered that the subwoofer unit of the i-trigue 3000 is smaller than the rest, it would fit nicely into my traveling plans.
Aesthetically, the design is pretty good looking, size is almost equal the Altec Lansing XT1, perfect for my notebook. There are blue lights on the remote control and the subwoofer, not too excessively fancy, which is good.
Soundwise, this is the best sounding computer speakers I've owned. Mind you, I haven't own anything more expensive than this and I'm no audiophile. It plays my wide collection of music at a clean and crisp sound even at loud volumes. That's all I really ask for in a 2.1 computer speaker system. Though small, this pair can definitely fill a small or medium room with a lot to spare.
The remote control is a great addition, it has main volume and bass control but a headphone jack.
One complain I have is that the subwoofer unit is meant to be put on the desk. I put it under my desk because I didn't want the cables to clutter up my desk. Unfortunately, the unit doesn't offer much boom down at my feet.
Overall, a good pair of computer speakers if you can find it at a discount. Probably the most portable 2.1 system along with the JBL Spyros.
