C-star Go 6450 900 x 60mm refractor
Pros
Nifty-looking, extremely portable and lightweight unit. Comes with nylon carrying case.
Cons
This scope---at least my particular example of it---is worthless as an optical instrument.
Recommended it?
No
Bought the above new-in-box online but, while the scope appeared at the outset to be the answer to my dual-purpose prayers, it simply didn't some close to living up to the manufacturer's blurb ('razor-sharp images', etc.) Image was unusably out of focus with every eyepiece I tried. (Fact is, my kids' little 50mm toy scope gives a MUCH clearer image using the same 21mm Kellner) Desperate, I disassembled the tube and found that the small lens set at the end of the draw-tube was installed VERY noticably askew of the perpendicular. I assume this lens is how such a short-tube (12") instrument can brag of 900mm focal length
---and I also assume that this lens needs to be columated very carefully for the scope to work; obviously, it is not.
Had I purchased the item directly from C-Star it would have been long gone on its way back to the factory for repair or replacement; as it is I got it new but from a dealer (on eBay) with no warranty. (one can't help but wonder where he got it---from a dumpster?) Live & learn!
