Great things come in smaller packages!

Pros Size, features/cost, 32MB INTERNAL, long battery life
Cons If you dont shop around, this camera can be expensive - especially being new.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  An excellent go anywhere, do anything camera. Great for novice or advanced user.
This is my 2nd Sony camera. My first one (DSC-S85 from 2002 @$500) is an excellent camera - but wife wife wanted something smaller that she could drop into her hand bag.
This camera has features that my older camera doesn't even offer. If you want a small version of the older S85, this is the way to go!

Erganomics:
Excellent. The square style of the camera seems easier to hold in my average sized hand than the "candy bar" style sony cameras. There is a definite feeling of quality in the camera.
I like too, that the lense cover is built into the camera (not so with my older sony).

LCD:
Big 2 inch screen, bright, and has full complement of settings to make it darker/lighter/contrasty.

Menu system:
Intuitive for normal shooting & things you need to get done quickly.
You may need to reference the manual for some of the more advanced settings to gain an understanding of how to use them - especially if you have never used a Sony camera before.
Especially nice - battery life gauge on the LCD display!

Picture image Quality:
Very good! The Carol Zeiss glass lense is known for its excellent quality. Color rendition is good.
The camera has 4 megapixels and provides very good results - even for larger picture sizes.

Battery Life:
Forget using alkaline AA batteries except where there is no other option. Use rechargable AA Nickel Metal Hydride batteries (MAHA Powerex brand are excellent).
Using these types of rechargables allows you to experience EXCELLENT battery life. Again, the battery life indicator guage on the LCD is a nice thing!

Flexibility:
This camera is VERY flexible in its use.
You can just turn it on and start snapping pictures w/o any issue - or - you can use its manual or partial manual shooting modes to take pictures.
Also, the camera has the ability to resize, crop, and rotate picture on board the camera. No more need to use photo software on your computer to do these common picture editing tasks.

Picture Taking Features:
The camera has 32 mb of memory INTERNALLY. It uses the faster memory stick PRO sticks, and it also can use the older/original sony memory sticks once the camera reformats them. (Note that when newer sony cameras reformats the stick, it will not work in your older Sony camera. You will need to reformat the stick in your older Sony camera to use the stick again...a minor nuisance if you plan on using the same sticks between older and newer sony cameras).

There is a BURST feature - with one press of the shutter button, the camera will take 16 rapid shots in succession.
The timing between shots in easily controlled in the menu system. This is a really nice feature for sporting events or fast action picture taking. The pictures are taken so fast that the camera seems to only take a single shot! (It is recommended you use the internal memory, or faster memory stick PRO media for this feature).

ZOOM:
The camera is a 3x optical/2x digital zoom. The digital zoom on this camera is much better than the one on my older sony. It has something called "Smart zoom" which is supposed to help make the digital zoom use less grainy than is typical. I found this to be true.
I never used it in my original sony. I think I can find use for the digital zoom now that the quality has improved.

Flash:
is good. Red eye reduction seems to do its job except when zoomed in all the way (normal experience for cameras).
You can increase/decrease intensity & turn off the flash as you see necessary.

Options:
The camera has optional screw on telephoto & wide angle lenses.
There is also a new docking station available. You can get more info on that at www.sonystyle.com. (I dont have it and thus wont cover it in this review).

Cost:
I found that the average cost of this camera was around $250 street price. I was able to get it online for $219 with free shipping. Being a brand new camera on the market, and for the features found, I felt this was an excellent buy. Even at $249, its a heck of camera!
