Let the buyer beware

Pros Lots of space, Fast startup, Good night time illumination, Large viewfinder
Cons Battery dies after 15-30 minutes, Models I bought might be defective
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Buy a Canon instead. If you buy one of these, you run the chance of getting a defective model.
I just bought a Sony Cybershot S60 thinking it would work right out of the box. Boy was I wrong!

I popped the batteries in and I turned on the camera. To my surprise, the camera turned on for half a millisecond and then died on me. I kept trying to turn it on several more times thinking it would magically work, but nothing happened.

A half hour later, I try to turn it on and it worked! I snapped photos of cars at an auto show for like 30 minutes and then the camera died again.

When I got home, I popped in brand new Energizer batteries and the camera worked for like 10 minutes and then it died. After that, it was impossible to turn it on again.

I brought it back to SEARS and got a same model exchange for it. I brought the new S60 home, tried it out and then it died too.

NOTE: Sometimes the camera worked fine in one shooting mode, but when I turned the wheel, that's when it would turn off.

I'm now sending it to a camera shop in Connecticut and I'm hoping that they will fix the camera for good. But from reading from some of the reviews on different websites I'm thinking this model is plagued with problems.

UPDATE: The cost of sending it to Connecticut was $10, of which I believe will never be refunded to me. Sony has a ridiculous warranty repair policy.

Should I return the Cybershot and get a different brand? Has anyone else had the same problems with their S60?

I really loved my S60 when it worked and it's got alot of memory! I don't want to exchange for another model that has 16mb of memory.

I've heard that this model sucks alot of power from its battery, but I wouldn't imagine SONY making a camera that sucks power so quickly from batteries.
