I bought this TV over 3 years ago, and have not noticed any of the problems people seem to be posting about.
I Bought the Best Buy Service plan with it and currently have it in the shop to fix a few minor issues. 1=Put the entire picture in the visible area. 2=Fix the distortion that the last repair guy did while fixing #1. 3=Check fading colors and potential double image. I did ask them to check the fire issue though and they said they would look at it.
My biggest gripe is that there is only one component video input (RGB). I fixed that with an RGB switch box that automatically senses when another component (i.e. DVD player) is turned on. Not sure about sound, because I use a home theater system.
