Fire Hazzard

Pros It was great having an HDTV for 2 years
Cons not worth $1000 for 2 years it will try to kill you watch out
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Do not buy! It is a fire hazzard and will try to kill you!
We've had this TV for 2 1/2 years and last night it tried to burn our house down. It' was on most of the evening and around 10:30pm it started cracking and popping. The screen went black and blue elctrical arc and sparks shot out the back. There was a distinct smell of something burning. (Probably the inside of the TV) We unpluged it from the brand new surge protector and watched it to see if we were going to need the fire department. I was terrified to sleep last night worried that we would be awaked by fire. If I had known that there was any risk of this TV spontaniously catching fire, I would never have bought the dammed thing. We leave the TV on while we are in other rooms or downstairs in the kitchen, and I am just glad we were in front of it when this happened. My infant daughter's room is on the other side of the wall the TV is on, and if it started a fire, her room would be the first one burnt. Two weeks before the fireworks, the sceen would go black 2 or 3 times, then it would turn itself off. I called GE to see what the problem might be, and they said probably the surge protector was old. So I bought a new one and now the thing is fried and we have to pay $100 for someone to even look at it and tell us what is wrong and probably just buy a new TV for a little more than it costs to fix. I have never had a TV shoot craps so soon. The last one I had that broke, took 15 years before the sound went out on it. Needless to say it was NOT a GE and no sparks shot out of the speakers. I will never trust the GE brand on anything electronic again.
