Purchased this unit to replace a standard unit with no DVR. DTV software upgrade made a world of difference with this unit. Unfortunately this unit's hard drive lasts only a year and mine just went out. Called DirecTV about the problem and received a "must go buy another one with a contract" answer.
These shoddy components are why cable will reclaim the TV universe. Why, in the beginning, did we switch to satellite? Because of the crappy cable company signal and service.
