The Bottom Line:
I wouldn't buy this unless I wanted "mp3 player-induced-depression."
I chose the Dell product mainly because of the excellent price and because of my past experiences with Dell. It ended up being a very frustrating mistake.
I wanted to use my player to transfer from Napster and Yahoo music services. If that is what you plan to do, THIS IS NOT THE DEVICE TO BUY. It worked well for the first month or so. Inexplicably, it refused to transfer music one day. I started losing licenses. I would reformat the player (losing all my music), then attempt to retransfer. However transfer errors occurred each time I downloaded. It was ridiculous and frustrating. The product was basically useless.
Product support from Napster and Yahoo was great. The problem was certainly with the machine. I called Dell support and they quickly shipped a refurbished item as a replacement. On the first transfer with the new DJ, the same problems occurred. I would have loved to throw it off a cliff. Even though it was cheaper than completing products, it was still money down the drain.
So, if you plan to transfer from a subscription service, stop by the pharmacy on the way home and get some aspirin, 'cause you're going to have a huge headache with the Dell DJ 30GB.
I bought an iriver H10 as a replacement. It's working great.
