This telescope may still be found at some Wal-Mart locations at clearance prices. If you find one, jump on it! Meade discontinued this item in 2001, so availability is scarce.

I bought one for $250.00, brought it home and had it set up and focused on Saturn within 30 minutes. I was able to resolve Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, Mars and the moon easily with the supplied eyepieces, but that was about it. If that is all you want out of a scope, it's a great deal. However, if you want to see distant objects such as nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters, you need to at least upgrade the eyepieces.

Other things to note:
*It's a pretty big & clunky scope, taking it camping is not an easy feat.
*The worm gears (mount) can sometimes be defective, but Meade will replace with no questions asked.
*The "GoTo" feature is VERY COOL - (if you can get it calibrated right)
*It will definitely impress your friends.

Final Note: If you are truely an amateur astronomer & just want to get out in the back yard to see the planets, this is a great telescope. It will help you get aquainted with the stars & constellations. But, if you are wanting to look at deep space objects this scope will leave you wanting more. Save your pennies and spend about $2000.00 for a really good scope.
