Finally, A Combo Pack That Doesn't Suck

Pros fantasic design of player, bass boost, remote, great headphones, DC/DC adapter included, inexpensive
Cons weird treble on some CDs, volume settings switch back, only so-so cassette adapter
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The Durabrand CD895 is worth $25 for the player and the extra goodies with it.
I bought this while shopping around Wal-Mart, one of my CD players went dead and needed an inexpensive replacement. I bought this since I didn't really care about quality and the DC/DC adapter was a big plus.

The CD player I will review first since it seems to be the biggest reason why you would buy this. The screen shows the track number and time of the disc play. It also shows how much ESP seconds you have left (or in other words, how much you can move the player). And yes, this player does have a 60-second shock protection that works very well. Play, pause, stop, program, repeat one, repeat all, and random are avaliable. As you can see from the picture, it has a pretty sleak looking black design, which will probably make others more tempted to buy. It does have two seperate line-out and headphone jacks. The volume is a push-button control. As far as sound goes, its pretty good as long as you aren't listening to any really high vocals, as on some CDs (usually CD-Rs and CD-RWs) seems to scratch. A minor annoyance, luckily it goes away in one minute of the song (maybe mine is defective?). But the sound is very good. One thing I find very annoying is that the volume switch back to factory settings each time you turn the player off. The headphones have a very good range considering they beat out the Sony MDRE828LP's, both in bass and treble. My guess is that they range from 10Hz-21000 but I'm only guessing. The player does have a 4.5V outlet, so instead of using two AA's, and a DC/DC adapter is included (I'll talk more about it in a little bit). As far as durability, it's much more durable than other Durabrand CD players I've tried, so you should be in good luck. Usually if there is something wrong mechanically, you'll probably notice it within the first week of use.

The headphones I've already talked about, but I'll get into a little more depth. They are over-the-ear normal style. They fit very comfortable though the earpads get itchy to me after some use. They say Digital L and Digital R so you can find what ear is supposed to go on what easily. Like I said, the sound quality beat out a Sony pair of earbuds so the sound quality out of them should be very good unless your used to using Shures.

The combo also comes with a cassette adapter. It's pretty good but not as my Sony. The player has to be turned up pretty loud for the adapter but the problem is the player distorts on loud volume (itself not the speakers) if you have bass boost on. But if you keep the volume low you have to turn the cassette up but that creates hiss. The cassette adapter is so-so, it will do if your not too picky.

The DC/DC adapter is a good add-on. A red light flashes on when your connection is on and working.

All in all, the Durabrand CD895 should be a big bang for your buck.
