QUALITY and NEAR HD PICTURE! Denon's DVD-755S

Pros Denon name, Solid, 1080i DVI, Faroudja, Adjust picture with Player. Same as model DVD-1910.
Cons None yet.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This and the Panasonic DVD-S97 are the best I've tested. DENON is a High End Company, though reasonable this is a High End product. One of the BEST DVI players!
This is the newest purchase of the HD UPconvert scaling, players I own. UPconvert is a word used to allow you to use your TV, if HDTV much like you change to a higher resolution on a computer monitor.

This Denon has an edge, on most of the other players of this type I own, the primary way is the ability to adjust the picture, sharpness, contrast...etc When tested on a Hitachi 60" LCD, a SONY 50" LCD and a Sanyo HDTV, 30" widescreen CRT, all delivered a fantastic picture. The ability to make your own settings allows good to become better. The Samsung's HD-841, HD-941 and HD-931, while all good, lack any features, in this area, and neither does the Toshiba SD-5970. Plus simply out of the box, this is a great player. Like the later two Samsungs it uses DCDI, and while I have yet to see any UPconvert player not improve any picture, this one is the best of what, so far I have tested. The only other UPconvert player I have and most similar to this one, is the Panasonic
DVD-S97. Between those two, it is a toss up. Both are heavily featured, and are solid players. The Denon may run a tad higher in price, at least on the street.

While I found an excellent picture on all of the players that would do, the UPconvert to 720p and 1080i " my favorite ", this player I found a dependable performer. I HATE having to always adjust the TVs to improve or change a setting, and
that is a personal gripe of mine. If the DVD needs a tweak
then it should have the ability to do so. This one and the Panasonic will allow this. You may adjust contrast, sharpness, gamma, and color, as well as brightness all from the DVD player, while it is playing the DVD.

The player interface is simple to learn, and the remote compliments the player. This is not a complex machine to learn, and if you error it is easy to correct. When testing or comparing even just for myself I use a DVD called " Coral Sea Dreaming " which is vivid in colors and details. Flat out it looks like you are in the middle of the ocean with this player on any of the TV's I have. I try various commercial DVDs as well, and have no problems, why I like to use the one mentioned, is that it offers a better aspect of judging, due to the nature of the movie.

Pricewise this is a Bargain player for Denon, " Denon's can carry big price tags ", though not as bulky as their more expensive players and similar to the older DVD-1910. Both have the Faroudja chip, which is a Prize in itself. Any player that uses this technology is always in the better rated class. Basic on this, is the chip allows for a superior picture processing.

As for basic use I have had no troubles at all with this player, the one I got worked well out of the box, and remains so. While any of the UPconvert players will add NEW LIFE to your DVD collection, this is my favorite, and the only one of the Major players I have not tried is the new SONY version.

The only experience I had with any Denon product that was negative I found that they were very helpful in fixing it, and belive that based upon that, Denon seems to care about it's reputation. Technical specs and all can be found here,
but the primary difference in this player is your ability to make corrections in the movie. And the one disadvantage I have found with all UPconvert players, is if you are using FULL screen on a Wide TV, or an older DVD movie, you will not get all the benefits of UPconverting. And like all the rest in this group it does best at 1080i. I belive anyone who buys this product will be pleased with it, but REMEMBER you can only use this with HD ready TVs. Running components into a CRT Sony 32" this player performs well, but no better than a Panasonic DVD-S47. Use the DVI and that will get you where you want to go. And if you have HDMI, you can purchase an adapter. And with those I have had good luck overall.

NOTE: I Only REVIEW Items I actually have use or ownership of. My opinions are based solely upon actual use of the product. Since I review for a consumer eye, often I do not include the technical specs, unless they actually have a visual or audio impact. What I do not review are items, I do not own, nor do I just go try something out in a store. My work in the real world is reviewing use of electronic related products, software, Computer hardware, DVD video , PC & Console video games, and the similar items, what I do here, when I can is reflect upon that, in a way that hopefully is of help to everyone. My job allows me, access to many interesting things, which of course the normal person is not going to own a fleet of any one item. So while I have alot at hand, it is only items I would actually buy for use I would call a Best Buy. Hope this helps you understand the perspective I am coming from. Also I have no built in favoritism, nor am I the employee of any producer of these products, I'm an Independent Advisor, and that is all.

UPDATE OF INTEREST: I have just reviewed the DENON DVD-955S and since it is somewhat similar, might be of interest to you.

NOTE: I have been ask a question, if the DVD-755 is the same as this unit. If you get one and it comes boxed as DVD-1910/755 that appears to be the DVD-755S. Since they are listed in different areas by Denon, this has caused confusion, as well as most companies just put the letter " S " after the model number to indicate silver. I rewrote a complete head on between the two, and additional research.

IMPORTANT: For warranty protection and truth in sales, I would verify I am buying from an authorized DENON DEALER.
Big money brands are often the sight of fraud online.
