My DJ Ditty Experience

Pros compact size
Cons poor design, battery and charging problems
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Invest in a better designed unit. Any extra cost will be far outweigh the aggravation of trying to deal with a malfunctioning unit, or Dell's rotten outsourced customer service.
I'm disappointed with the DJ Ditty and I am certainly not a moron. Here's why I give the Ditty a low rating:

I)The navigational(scroll) button is hard to control and flimsy. It very easily could have been designed better, especially by such a large and prosperous company as Dell. Take into consideration that this is one of the main buttons pressed during play: it not only needs to function well, but be able to withstand a lot of use.

II)The battery doesn't hold a charge for very long, more poor design by DEll, since the unit is recharged by USB port only. You couldn't take this unit on a road trip, not without a laptop or a stop at a cyber cafe to power up.

III)I had my unit 25 days when it quit charging all together. The computer(brand new)no longer recognized it even being connected, nor would any other pc I plugged it into.

IV)None of the possible reset options worked.

V)Eventually the battery went completely dead. I called Dell-and I had to speak with 2 customer representatives that aren't even in America--shame on Dell and any other company that outsources their customer service to foreign countries. They walked me through the instruction manuals they are given to deal with problems, even though they obviously have no idea what they are telling me to do. I would be shocked if either one of them had even held a Ditty in their lives. Eventually, they ran out of steps, and I was offered a replacement. I tried for a refund instead. Since it was more than their 21 day return policy, I would have to pay shipping and give them a 15% restocking fee (for a MALFUNCTIONING unit).

VI)I opted for replacement; they sent me a REFURBISHED ditty to replace the new item I paid 100 bucks for.

I already know their service stinks, so I'm not even going to bother and complain. I'm going to cross my fingers and hope that this refurbished unit works better than the brand new ones. If it doesn't, I'll have about 60 more days for them to get it right(and I'll have the joy of speaking with more foreign customer service personnel who don't know jack about the product I have a problem with).

After the 90 days from day of sale are up: if this or another replacement unit fails, I'll just have to eat my hundred bucks and find an MP3 player that is actually made well. Next time, I'll be trying something that starts with an I.
