Not bad...worth bucking the trend
Pros
Great for non-musicphiles, Cost and sound
Cons
Locking mechanism and settings style
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
The Dell DJ Ditty is compact, has great sound and is fairly easy to use. I would recommend it to beginners and the athletic set.
Unlike most people I haven't gone crazy over Apple's iPod. I think it's nice but I'm not paying almost $300 to listen to music at the gym. There is also not a television show in history that I just have to watch on a screen that will eventually give me a headache because it's so small that I need to have an iPod.
I'm a devoted Dell user and I saw there little DJ Ditty that was on sale and decided to give it a try. For $69, not including the warranty and accidental damage insurance, I figured why not give it a try.
Well I got it yesterday, 3/31/06, and charged the battery and loaded my music, only 41 songs so far. And like I said it's not bad. The locking mechanism is annoying because it will lock without you knowing you did it and you'll have to reset it. But the good thing is that when you reset it your FM preset stations are not lost. It takes about 1 hour to get familiar with how it works and to read the manual. Once you have, it works and sounds really great.
I downloaded my music from my Yahoo Unlimited subscription. The music jukebox that comes with it is ok but I didn't want to copy all of my music from Yahoo! to Jukebox it was much easier to just use Yahoo! Besides Yahoo! Music Unlimited is compatible and works wonderfully.
You do have to be a Yahoo! Music Unlimited full subscriber to download music from your engine to DJ Ditty but it's worth it. I don't have to buy the music just pay $11.99 a month for the subscription for all the music I want and there's no hassle with the licensing. Once it's on my ditty the music is mine even if I cancel my Yahoo! Unlimited subscription.
They could have come up with easier handling of setting FM preset stations. You really have to read the manual and remember what to do the next time you want to set or change a preset station.
So far I'm impressed with the DJ Ditty and for today I'd say it was worth the money. Unless your a serious musicphile or just want to be with the trend to have an iPod strapped to your arm try out the Dell DJ Ditty.
