This Replaced my Ipod Shuffle

Pros portable, simple, FM receiver, works with services other itunes, durable, has a display
Cons It can't cure cancer. Volume level will REALLY crank, so be careful.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you are an athlete, or don't mind reloading music every night, and sometimes you like the radio, this is the player for you.
I'm not going to give you all the precise specs, because you can just follow the link to Dell to get that information. I'll tell you my experience instead.

Just as a prelude: my Ipod Shuffle did exactly what it was supposed to. It gave me a random selection of songs from my computer's library and I could work out to music with a minimum of distraction... Well, I dropped my Shuffle in the toilet, and after a week I guess the water corroded some circuits because it died. This was probably the best thing that ever happened to my portable music listening.

The Dell DJ Ditty, is superior to my old Shuffle in every way. For one thing, you can't use an Ipod Shuffle with any music subscription service except Itunes, and they make you buy the tracks. Instead, with the Ditty, you can subscribe to Yahoo Music, and take from a selection of over a million songs for one flat yearly fee.

If you are like me, though, and prefer you own your music free and clear of any annoying digital rights management, which restricts your enjoyment of your purchased music, the Ditty is excellent to have. Put whatever music you want on it, and it plays it, pure and simple. You plug it in, and the Musicmatch(included) software syncs it up while your Ditty charges (runs for 14 hours as long as you aren't blasting the volume the whole time [which would kill your eardrums anyway]). I don't even use MusicMatch though, I use MediaMonkey, so it doesn't really matter what music program you have on your machine. Windows Media Player would work fine as well.

In addition, the Ditty's got an FM radio, which automatically scans for the 10 best received radio stations in your area. This is great for catching up on sports scores and news while you run or hike. It's about time a lower-priced player included an FM radio.

The display is simple and easy to read. One problem I had with the Shuffle, was that although I don't particularly CARE what plays next, sometimes I am surprised by a track and I want to know the name of the song I'm listening too. It's also nice to know how much battery life you've got left.

You should not buy this device is you want to read a catalogue of everything stored on the device quickly and easily, instead this is the perfect device for someone who has more of cursory interest of what is playing, and at what point in the track you are listening.

I got the 512MB model, which holds about 110 songs at a mix of 128-196 kps sound resolution. That's plenty for my purposes, because I use my computer as my reservoir of music, and this device is like a traveler's water bottle. I don't like music players that hold everything you own, and cost 400 dollars, because if you drop it or lose it, or it gets stolen, you're out of luck.

This device is in every way superior to the Ipod Shuffle, the accessories and the device itself are also cheaper.

I've come across some bad reviews of the Ditty, and I really don't know why. My theory is that some people are morons, but I can't say for sure..
