Bought at good price with online coupons
Pros
A lot of features in one package. Does most things well.
Cons
Loud fan, scanning software for network is questionable.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
For the $350 or so that I spent, I'm happy. It replaced a Brother all in one inkjet monster that took up more room and constantly ran out of ink.
I was lucky and got some pretty good discounts with online coupons so for the $300 or so that I spent, not a bad deal to replace my old inkjet fax machines.
I had seen the same problems as some of the other posters. The printing is not all that dark, but I don't use this for scanning (the network scanning software didn't seem to work too sell in my static IP network even though I configured my 1600N with a static IP, and yes, i'm a sys admin so i know how to set up network devices).
I would highly suggest getting the 5K toner cartridge above the 3K one for all those that complain about not getting enough prints. Sure it's not a 10K print toner like some others, BUT the ebay/online price of $60/5K is half that of the the $120/10K toner cartridges for some other laser printers. In other words, you do get what you pay for IMO. The fan on this thing IS loud so if you sit next to it, move it or opt for another printer.
My personal take on this is that it's a great networked device for faxing, and printing. I haven't been able to figure out the scanning yet so I cannot comment on that, but I honestly only spent 5 minutes installing the software and not enough time troubleshooting on why it's not scanning for me. It copies well enough, and I have never had any connection problems with faxing.
I would highly suggest laser fax machines over ink jet machines.
