Mixed Feelings About this Dell 1600n All-in-One!
This Dell 1600n All-in-One Laser Printer has seen a lot of activity in our office. It has been from the Northwest Pacific to New England. It has severed as a network printer and scanner as well as a fax machine and photocopier. This machine is still working, but I do have mixed feelings about... Read full review »
If you need a B&W laser MFC for a PC, buy this!
The Dell 1600n is a triumph of and reflects the current state of the art in multifunction B&W laser devices. It has an integrated 22ppm laser printer, a wonderful scanner which can be used in flatbed or adf mode (in flatbed it's restricted to 8.5x11 standard paper sizes or smaller, though the adf... Dell's 1600n - A Poor Choice
As a fan of Dell notebooks, I jumped at the chance to replace my aging all-in-one laser printer with Dell's first entry in the AIO market. The 1600n's attractive gray and black accents on a relatively small, rectangular footprint--compared to its Canon, Brother and HP competitors--tempted me from... Read full review »
Poor Quality
I have had three 1600n printers since July 2005. The first printer broke down around March or April 2006. Dell sent a new one which never worked. The "new" printer broke the laser cartridges. Dell had to send a new replacement the same day I received the second printer. The third printer worked... Read full review »
Bought at good price with online coupons
I was lucky and got some pretty good discounts with online coupons so for the $300 or so that I spent, not a bad deal to replace my old inkjet fax machines.
I had seen the same problems as some of the other posters. The printing is not all that dark, but I don't use this for scanning (the...

If you need a B&W laser MFC for a PC, buy this (2)
A previous review of the Dell 1600n hit the nail on the head. Rather than rehash details of that full and detailed review, just refer to it at http://www.epinions.com/content_169348927108.
I had a couple things to add:
1) The referred review wisely suggested that you set up one...

buy a brother multifunction
scanning extremely slow. printing works okay. faxing worked okay for 2 years now cannot figure out why it won't receive faxes. have to buy toner direct from dell--can't buy from your local store. dell customer support was hostile (partly my fault), unable to figure out what went wrong with my toner... Wow, this one is noisy
Unless you like it loud, you don't want this printer. The fan is always on and it pulls so much power that my lights flicker (no kidding). It is going back tomorrow. Read full review »
This machine works well for the money.
We purchased this machine, and replaced a Brother MFC-8440 ( which is a great machine) The dell worked well in all phases. And as for the fan concern, the manual does not cover the answer for this. I found it by mistake.
Just push the menu button until you come to printer set up, and then...

Warning - design/manufacturing defect
DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER AT THIS TIME. The Dell 1600n printer has a design/manufacturing defect. Use causes the underside of the scanner glass to be coated with a film or residue eminating from inside the machine that can not be cleaned off - it is not reachable by the end user. Dell has been made... Read full review »
