The Bottom Line:
If you want portable use and don't need the MP3 capabilities of some of the newer receivers, it's an excellent buy.
I've had my Delphi MyFi XM Radio Receiver for almost one year now, and I am absolutely thrilled with it. It has had a few, minor problems, but other than that, it's great for home, car and portable listening.
Home Listening
After trying out several locations in my home, I eventually set up my MyFi in my living room, which is on the south side of my house. With my home antenna firmly taped to the top of my TV, I get excellent reception. I used the included stereo cable to connect it directly to my surround-sound system. I also have it set to record The Loft - Channel 50 every night. Works great.
Car Listening
I have the car antenna on the top of my car and I get great reception, except in tunnels or under some large bridges. I did have a slight problem with the car antenna. The coating on the wire must have caught on something and scraped off because the bare wire was exposed in one place. A little bit of electrical tape fixed it just fine. The MyFi has an FM modulator that allows you to listen to it on a regular FM radio. The sound quality using this method is about that of a standard FM station. When using the cassette adaptor, however, sound quality is greatly improved and sound more like that of a CD.
Portable Listening
I take my dog on a walk everyday around our neighborhood and I always take my MyFi with me. I consider this to be the best feature it has. It came with a portable "Clip" antenna that got so-so reception. I had to clip it to a different side of my shirt every time I turned a corner. I've since upgraded to the "Clip XT" antenna ($20 from myradiostore.us). It gets much better reception. I've also found that if I just hold the MyFi, without the clip antenna, and point it in a southerly direction, it gets fantastic reception.
Similar to the car antenna problem, the coating on the headphone wire also came off in one spot. Again, some electrical tape fixed that.
Subscription
The normal price for an XM subscription is $12.95 per month (plus tax). I signed up for the one-year plan which lowers the price to $11.95 per month. Sometimes I think the price is a bit high, but then I turn on my radio and realize it's worth every penny.
XM Online
The XM subscription also includes access to XM Online. This is a great benefit since it lets me listen to XM Radio on any computer.
Overall, the MyFi is a great portable radio. After one year of owning mine, I've definitely satisfied. The two problems that I had with it are probably comparable to that of any electronic device. With new receivers being introduced, it's an especially good buy right now with prices around $140 (after rebate).
