Hit The Road, Roady2!

Pros portability, price, activation service, strong signals
Cons not as good quality, other stations can bleed through
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The best way to start out with satellite radio! The portability allow auto and home use in seconds.
Finally, I have decided to take the plunge into subscribing to satellite radio. Currently, I commute an hour each way to work, and rely on the radio to provide me with good music as I travel 50 miles to my work destination. However, the radio stations here have way too many commercials. I seem to spend more time changing the stations than I do listening to a song. I have some CD's I bought, but even that seems repetitive now.

The solution for me was satellite radio. Now, it was time to find a good versatile satellite radio receiver. A friend recommended the Roady2 because it ease of use and portability. I took his advice and went to Best Buy where I purchased the unit for $100. The Roady2 kit comes with the receiver, and the necessary hookups to work in a vehicle. The accessories include a cigarette ligher adapter for power, the small antenna, cassette adapter for those who dont want to use a cigarette lighter, and the vent clips to mount it on.

I had no problems installing the unit. And within 5 minutes of calling and placing my subscription, I had satellite radio in my truck! The price is reasonable, too. It costs $10 to activate it on the internet, and $10/month for the service.

The unit has all the good qualities that my friend said it did. It is definitely easy to install, easy to subscribe, and it definitely portable. The only downfall is this: Since the Roady2 has a built in FM modulator (meaning it broadcasts the signal to a selected frequency on your conventional radio dial), it can sometimes have another local station bleed through and cause static. However, there are several frequency options if one doesnt seem to work well. Also, since it is broadcasted to your regular radio, the quality is not near as good as if you had a satellite radio that was directly linked to your antenna and speakers.

For those who plan to listen to satellite radio in more places, there is a home adapter kit offered for an extra $40. This includes a bigger antenna, 120V wall outlet adapter, and A/V plugs that can go into a stereo system, and not to mention a nice little remote control. I opted to get this for the house, and it has remarkable results. The true quality of satellite radio is very much CD-like. The high gain antenna works well and does not have to be facing out the window. Actually, it is rare for the signal to be completely blocked at all, which really surprised me.

All in all, a very good and reasonably priced product from Delphi. You may give up some sound quality, but switching to satellite radio couldnt be any easier than this! I really enjoy the selections XM radio has to offer and the commute to work is more fun now.
