Great buy, great at any price range!
Pros
Unbelievable sound quality, plenty of power, all of this for only $$$$!
Cons
Poor ergonomics of remote
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Best receiver at this price and better than most at much higher price. The sound is second to none and power is more than sufficient.
I looked at dozens of receivers after reading reviews online and in print. I listened to literally dozens and found the best sound was had by the 2801. It sounded much more transparent than any of the competitors. Many of the others had bright and sometimes harsh coloration of the recordings. The denon 2801 let you hear the recording exactly as it did in the studio. I tried every type of music imaginable and the Denon performed like a champ with them all.
I was sceptical about the 90W per channel power rating. Trust me, this is plenty. Denon rates their power with all 5 channels driven at full range (20 Hz - 20 kHz) many others rate power with only 2 channels driven at 1 kHz. Not exactly apples to apples.
After being thouroughly impressed with it's ability to perform with music, I tried a few good DVD's in both Dolby Digital and DTS. WOW!
My only complaint is the remote. It does everything imaginable, but it's very difficult to operate. The ergonomics are very poor. If you have a good universal (Aktis, Pronto, etc.) then no pronblemo. Otherwise, get ready to not like the remote.
