A Custom Home Theater Masterpiece!

Pros Power to boot. 3 user interface. Unmatched sound quality.
Cons HDMI interfacing with DSS systems still questionable.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This is an excellent upgrade of the AVR3805 that is justifiable of the extra dollars.
For everyone that wants mid to high-end performance from an AV receiver, but were locked in at a $1200 or less budget, your ship has come in.

The Denon AVR3806 is a custom home theater dream-come-true. It has every feature that you could possibly want in a high end receiver.

The AVR3805 was definitely a hard act to follow, but Denon succeeded. The AVR3806 does not boast a lot more power, although the improvement in sound quality is quite obvious.

The main upgrade from the AVR3805 is the ability of the unit to upconvert analog signals to HDMI, (High Definition Multimedia Interface). HDMI is quickly becoming the industry standard in video, as well as audio.
The HDMI cable allows audio, and video to be transmitted through one cable.

TV's, receivers, and DVD players are adopting this standard. Sony has bought in, so that means that it is pretty much a go in the electronics industry.

The AVR3806 has two HDMI inputs, and 1 HDMI output, which is pretty much all you would need at this time.

I take it that the division of customers concerning the remote on the AVR3805 has prompted Denon to revamp the remote on the AVR3806.

The remote on the AVR3806 is much more user friendly and the ergonomics were more towards my taste.

If you put the units side by side, it is very hard to distinguish one from the other.

When you listen to the units side by side, you will notice that the AVR3805 definitely holds its own, but the AVR3806 does image much better, as well as expand the soundstage.

The AVR3806 allows you to automatically set up the parameters of the room with the auto-setup feature.

The guesswork of setting up your area for optimum sound performance is taken out because the receiver knows what is "best" for your room.

Another awesome feature of the AVR3806 is the 3 USER capability. This feature enables you to set up specific independent user functions for 3 different individuals. This is the equivalent to having three different receivers in one unit. No longer do you have to worry about someone tampering or throwing off your settings.

This unit also has the capability of doing three zones opposed to the traditional two that the AVR3805 has. This means that you can run audio and video to two zones, along with audio to a third zone.

In all, Denon has added $500 or more dollars worth of features to the AVR3806 while keeping it within the $1200 price range.

If you are looking for a receiver that is capable of being the brain of a three zone system, and you also need power galore, as well as great sound and upgradability, give the AVR3806 a long look.

As always, Happy Shopping!!!
