The Denon DCM-370 offers very good value for a budget CD player. The unit contains good quality DACs which will enhance your music listening experience.
Awhile back I wrote an opinion on the Harman Kardon FL8350 CD player. Since that time the HK started to develop problems so I bought the Denon DCM-370 to replace it. I must say that I preferred the sound of the HK to the Denon, but the Denon appears to be a more reliable machine. The sound of the Denon is warm, but natural. HDCD encoded discs have a very realistic and wide soundstage. I would say HDCD competes very favorably against the new SACD and DVD-Audio formats in that it does not sound as "digital". Highs are very transparent without the digital harshness, and bass is punchy and detailed.
The Denon DCM-370 is surely an excellent value in CD players today. I prefer a coaxial digital output when using an outboard DAC, which the Denon has. The onboard DACs are very high quality for such an affordable CD player. The disc tray is a bit noisy, but works reliably. I have never had a problem with the DCM-370 not being able to find a loaded disc in the tray (this is one of the problems with the HK). I have also never experienced the player skip either. The only negative I can give this player is the brightness of the display, but that is really no big deal, especially if you sit far away from the unit.
If you are looking for a quality CD player at a low price, check out this unit. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the cost vs. performance of the DCM-370. I would have liked to get another HK, but they are just too unreliable.
