good, but not as expected

Pros excellent sound, clarity, clarity, clarity
Cons loud CD transport, headphone volume control limited
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  It's a good CD player, but don't think it will revolutionize your system
I bought this CD player on the recomendations of many that I saw on the internet. When I got it in the mail, the only problem was that it didn't work. All it said on the screen was "error". How disappointing. So I sent it back and reluctantly got another one. (After shopping around and disliking all the others.) When I set up the working one, I listened to some disks that were HDCD encoded. They did sound very, very clear. I liked the fact that I could use the headphone jack and get excellent sound without any DSP or anything. (Unfortunately, though, the volume control that controls the headphone jack and the analog output is very limited.) The only other problem is that the CD transport mechanism is so loud. It was so bad my wife commented on it. That was embarassing after I had been praising this CD player for a month. Oh, well. It's a good player. I just hope they continue to make HDCD disks.
