Good "sweet-spot" for DVD players
Pros
Build quality, value for price, DVI output
Cons
None yet!
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Denon is classy and bulletproof. Great price for the value.
I just picked up one of these and find it is the best value for the money. You'll see diminishing returns if you spend more money, so this is a good sweet-spot. I'm pleased with the styling of the unit and durability of the controls. (True the remote looks a bit dated!)
More importantly, the performance of this Denon is excellent. Movies look good and music is nice too (much better than the Samsung). With other reviews I've read, I have also switched the black setting to OFF. Be sure to go into setup and get things tweaked the way you like.
I returned a Samsung 841 because of terrible build quality! The Samsung DVD841 came with a cheapo DVI cable. My high-end electronics guy told me component gives more depth perception, so I'm trying an $85 Tributaries cable. I did buy the Denon because it has the DVI connector - I couldn't see buying something with only "legacy" jacks!
I have experience with Denon in both commercial broadcasting (CD 951FA), and I own an old Denon receiver. Denon is classy and bulletproof. I recommend this DVD player.
(No SACD compatibility, but I don't care, so it's not listed as a weakness above.)
